In Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, a farmer set himself on fire by pouring kerosene in the police
station premises. On the spot, the family and police extinguished the fire and admitted the farmer to
the hospital for treatment. The farmer had put insecticide in his field. Due to which the entire soybean
crop was ruined. The unhappy farmer had appealed to the police to take action against the shopkeeper
on charges of substandard pesticide. This step was taken when no action was taken.
The police is investigating the role of the pesticide and the police station. This incident has stirred the entire administration.
Farmer Sheetal Rajak set himself on fire by sprinkling kerosene in the Banda police station premises of Sagar district on Tuesday morning. Fortunately, he was followed by his wife and family, he and the police personnel doused the fire with blankets and water. He was taken to the hospital for treatment by ambulance. The farmer has suffered about 50 percent burns. CCTV footage of the entire incident has also surfaced.
Sheetal Rajak, a farmer from Chaika village, had taken insecticide from Shankar Beej Bandar of Banda. When he applied insecticide in the field, weeds got burnt till the entire soybean. He had sown soybean crop in about ten acres. A lot was spent on crop boning. The entire crop of his field was destroyed by the spraying of insecticide. He also complained to the administration but no action was taken against the shopkeeper. Farmer Sheetal Rajak filed an application in Banda police station on Monday and demanded action. Police has started investigation on the application. This Tuesday morning a troubled farmer attempted suicide.
Farmer Sheetal Rajak had reached Banda police station on Monday along with wife Nisha and bought pesticides. Sheetal said that we bought the soybean seeds of Kivantal for 18 thousand rupees. We want that action should be taken against the shopkeeper. Substandard insecticides are being sold. Farmer Sheetal Rajak’s wife Nisha Rajak told that her husband was very upset due to crop failure. This morning he left the police station saying that he would commit suicide. We ran back. Till then he set himself on fire. With everyone’s cooperation, they were successful in extinguishing it.
The government missionary is angry with this incident. In this case, ASP Vikram Singh told that farmer Sheetal Rajak has tried to commit suicide. He had complained of non-standard pesticide. The pesticide investigation is being done by the Agriculture Department, action will be taken on whatever report comes. On the question of the negligence of the Banda police station in the proceedings of this case, Vikram Singh says that the way the Banda police station has taken up the matter, it has been directed to get the SDOP investigated. Whatever comes to the fore, action will be taken. At present the condition of the farmer is fine.
