BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) -Baton Rouge Police have arrested a woman seen shooting another person on video.
According to an arrest warrant, police watched the suspect, Raneshia Pointer, 22, on video firing a gun at an address on Longridge Avenue in the middle of the afternoon on Wednesday.
The warrant states that the suspect and victim met to fight, and at some point, Pointer grabbed a gun from a nearby car and fired a single shot.
According to police, the victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder.
“It’s pretty damn disheartening to see this. It makes no sense at all,” said Hillar Moore, East Baton Rouge District Attorney.
Experts believe this video is just one example of a much bigger problem among our young people that’s leading to life-or-death consequences.
Dr. Peter Scharf, a criminologist from LSU Health New Orleans, said more people are starting to turn to social media to post their crimes online and gain attention.
“There’s a need for recognition and fame, and this is a poor man’s way to get recognition and fame,” said Scharf.
Scharf said more people are starting to live-stream and post their crimes online, and in most cases, he said they care less about going to jail than they do about receiving that instant gratification.

There is a video of the shooting incident being shared on social media.
“There are kids who don’t get self-esteem from other sources. Teachers don’t think they’re worth much, and their parents may not,” said Scharf. “These are cries for recognition.”
Scharf said the answer to this problem is complex, but he doesn’t think it’s impossible.
“This idea of ‘instant fame’ is an important theme and it’s something researchers such as myself and police really need to think about,” Scharf said. “We got to think out of the box about this problem.”
Pointer was wanted on a felony count of attempted second-degree murder as well as a felony weapons charge.
Authorities confirmed Pointer was arrested on a separate warrant Tuesday (June 13) night.
