Mexico: residents burn uncle and nephew alive

Around 150 inhabitants of a community in the Mexican state of Puebla lynched and burned alive two men whom they identified as alleged kidnappers, but who were actually peasants who did not commit any crime, authorities clarified.



The state Public Security Secretariat said Wednesday that the two men were taken from prison by a mob that took justice into their own hands.



However, the State Prosecutor's Office stated on Thursday that the men were under guard because they were found intoxicated, but that they had not committed any crime.

The agency identified them as Alberto Flores Morales, 56, and Ricardo Flores Rodríguez, 21, uncle and nephew who lived in Xayacatlán de Bravo and Acatlán de Osorio, respectively.

"The Regional Investigation Prosecutor's Office is carrying out various procedures to find those responsible. It is preliminarily ruled out that the deceased had participated in any crime; they were allegedly engaged in field work," the Puebla Attorney General's Office said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the two men were accused of kidnapping children by residents, who detained them and handed them over to the authorities of the community of San Vicente Boquerón, municipality of Acatlán de Osorio.
