a traffic accident was reported, a bus on the route Matagalpa - Waslala which carried 70 people as passengers bound for Matagalpa. When passing through the Manceras sector, the steering wheel broke, causing a flight to the Manceras bridge, Rancho Grande.

At least 16 people lost their lives in a traffic accident that occurred at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday, December 23 at the Mancera Bridge, located in the descent of the Yaoska community in the municipality of Rancho Grande, Matagalpa.

"Nine of the 16 deceased have been identified so far", confirmed the co-governor and spokeswoman of the Ortega regime, Rosario Murillo, adding that the preliminary version is that the driver lost control of the vehicle that was carrying about 70 people and then "overturned" on a bridge. More than 26 people were also injured.

The spokeswoman indicated that "we are deeply moved by this misfortune that reached us this day".

The people were traveling in a bus going from Waslala to Matagalpa when it crashed into a bridge and became stranded. They were on their way to a spiritual retreat, reported the pro-government Radio Ya.

Among the dead, according to preliminary reports, there are six girls and two boys, as well as eight adults, of which six are women and two are men.

Only seven victims have been identified, among them four minors. The adults identified so far are Gladys Aguinaga Cruz, 39 years old; Denis Uriel Flores Lopez, 29 years old and Melanina Rivera Gonzalez, 29 years old.

The official media affirms that everything indicates that the driver of the bus with license plates MT 23756 was speeding.

The bus was driven by Douglas Orozco who was detained by police authorities to determine his degree of responsibility in the tragedy that has left the families of the dead victims in mourning.

Workers from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) also arrived at the scene and transported the injured to the hospital.

Local media reported photographs of surviving minors who urgently need to locate their relatives. Among them are two minors whose mother was taken to the hospital in delicate condition.

There is also the case of another minor who says her name is Josmari, but her mother's name is unknown.
