Avelino Lopes, in the south of PI, has three homicides in 48 hours; police say crimes are linked to factions

The most recent death occurred on Sunday morning (18) in a business in the city. On Saturday (17), a man was executed on a local road and, on Friday (16), a faction leader was murdered.

Man dies after being shot at in a business in southern Piauí

Three homicides were recorded in 48 hours in Avelino Lopes , in the south of Piauí, 790 km from Teresina . The most recent happened on Sunday morning (18): Jiovam Ribeiro de Araújo, 49 years old, was shot dead in a business in the center of the municipality. All crimes are related to criminal factions operating in the city, says the Civil Police.

Images from the establishment's security camera (see above) show two suspects arriving on a motorcycle. One of them gets out of the vehicle and fires several shots at the victim, wearing a yellow shirt, and two other men who were inside the bar. A child, behind the counter, witnesses the scene and ducks to avoid the shots.

According to the Military Police, Jiovam died after being hit and another man, shot in the legs, was taken to the hospital in Avelino Lopes. The suspected shooters fled after the crime and have not yet been found.

Execution on local road

The second occurred on Saturday afternoon (17), when the Military Police were called by members of the public and found the body of Joniclei da Silva Lustosa, aged 31, on the banks of a local road that connects Avelino Lopes to the town of Baixão dos Ribeiros, in rural area of ​​the municipality.

A video recorded by the homicide suspects shows the victim walking on the road, with his hands behind his head, accompanied by the perpetrators of the crime. Shortly afterwards, the men hit her with several gunshots and kill her on the spot.

The Civil Police and criminal experts were called in to investigate the circumstances of the execution. According to the chief delegate of Curimatá , César Gomes, one of the executioners was identified through a tattoo seen in the video . Both, however, have not been arrested so far.
