An accident involving a bus left one person dead and another injured in the Maracanã neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio, this Wednesday. According to the Military Police, the bus had run over the two people. The driver was taken to the 25th DP (Engenho Novo), to provide clarification on the possible causes of the accident. According to the Fire Department, the call was made at 12:50 p.m. The collision took place on Rua São Francisco Xavier, near the community of Mangueira.
Videos circulating on social media show the despair of the people present at the scene. The bus traveling on line 249 (Água Santa-Carioca) hit the victims in front of a mechanic shop. In the images, it is possible to see motorcycles and tires spread across the track.
César Gomes, 44, died at the scene. Alan Silva, 40 years old, was taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital. He is in stable condition.
According to the 25th DP (Engenho Novo), the driver is being interviewed, as well as witnesses. The investigation is ongoing.
